Camster Cairns

Undoubtably the best known, and preserved example of Chambered Cairns in Caithness. The examples are just a short walk from the single track road. The walk is on a raised wooden path over peat bog.

Just off the main A99 to Wick, there is a small parking area, then a nice 0.44 mile hike awaits. Indicated on the map is the Garrywhin Hillfort, which is worth a small hike on to see the Standing Stones of Get also. I have marked a number of other potential sites in the area.

This is situated just off the main A99 to Wick, (near Ulbster and the famous Whaligoe Steps). The Cairn lies below the Garrywhin Hillfort which is an Iron Age hill fort, with Standing Stones atop it.
