A sumptuous Caithness sunset gently warms a beautiful broch, overlooked by the silhouetted hills of Caithness. This dream-like print by Glasgow-based artist Lizzie Robertson, inspired by Minera Broch in Caithness is a charming, rustic vision of north Highland tranquility.
Minera Broch – also known as South Houstry Broch – would have once towered over the landscape; now it is a grass-covered mound, though still retains a height of around 12 feet and is around 70 feet wide!
Lizzie’s image captures the broch in a moment of genteel decay, and imagines a still-proud monument in its final moments. The image invokes a sense of wonder about the world – and archaeology – around us; the spaces they inhabit, and the places which once were home.
Lizzie Robertson is an illustrator and PhD researcher in Archaeology with an interest in representing Scottish heritage and landscapes through creative visualisation and sound.
