Additional Information

A single-track access road leads to Forss House Hotel, where there is a small parking area just before you reach the hotel. From here, a path leads into the mature beech woodland. The route is unmarked but follows a clear track through the woods, around Forss House Hotel, and out onto the grassy hill above Forss Water.

The path leads down the hill and follows the riverbank, crossing a bridge and continuing along a timber walkway. The path opens out to a secluded, grassy spot beside the river, with the historic Forss East Mill on this side and views across the river to Forss West Mill. The West Mill is a fine example of a 19th-century grain mill which is now used as housing.

An impressive waterfall can be seen cascading down past the mills into the pools below. Return to the car park by the same path.

For a longer walk, it is possible to walk north along the river bank to reach the salmon bothy at the river mouth, or to continue up the hill to St Mary’s Chapel.
